Fusion Layout that integrates aquascape and Wabi-Kusa Wall and its potential

‘In The Jungle’
The vitality of the plants growing out from underwater to above water in a dense deep jungle was expressed in the ADA Nature Aquarium Cube Garden by combining it with a DOOA Wabi-Kusa Wall. Although two different creators produced the aquascape and the Mizukusa Wall independently, they discussed their work with each other in detail ahead of time to have a cohesive overall appearance. First, two driftwood branches, to which ferns are attached, were arranged in the aquarium, and then emersed-grown ferns were attached to the Wabi-Kusa Wall in continuation of the ferns on the driftwood. The placement of the ferns represents the appearance of aquatic plants growing up out of water to above water as time passes. A large swimming space for the fish was created by taking advantage of the spacious 60 cm aquarium.

The bold openness of the aquascape transcends the limits of aquarium. A new style and exciting layout without a boundary

This layout has a structure in which a 60 cm Nature Aquarium expands into the Wabi-Kusa Wall above water. Since two sets of filters are used to accommodate this structure, the aquarium maintenance method of this layout is rather unique. Since detritus accumulating on the Wabi-Kusa Mat can cause an outbreak of cyanobacteria, a wool mat is placed over the filter media (Bio Rio) and rinsed once a month to keep it clean. In addition, detritus is suctioned out frequently from the area behind the driftwood where Manten Stones are stacked, which tend to collect detritus due to a slow water flow. A higher number of Otocinclus is added to the aquarium at an early stage as an algae countermeasure for the underwater section.

1. Increasing the size of an aquarium may present a problem in a limited space. A Wabi-Kusa Wall can expand the layout vertically without increasing the footprint of the aquarium.

2. The layout captures the appearance of ferns on the driftwood extending above the water. Using the same aquatic plants for both underwater and above water produces coherent scenery.

3. Plants that are relatively tolerant of drying are used in the wall section. The use of Jungle Plants can expand the range of expression.

4. The higher location of the light makes the underwater section darker. The underwater section is planted primarily with sciophytic aquatic plants, and brightly colored fish were selected for it.
