Enjoy DOOA ‘JUNGLE PLANTS BEGONIA COLLECTION’

In line with the development of DOOA paludarium products, three more begonia species have been newly added to the Jungle Plants series to expand the variety of tropical plants you can enjoy. In this article, we will talk specifically about the fascination of begonia leaves, including those to be released in the future.
Begonia amphioxus
The shocking red dots on the surface of sharp, pointed leaves look like a modern art design. The psychedelic, even lurid, colors are too sensational to be true.
Begonia chlorosticta (green form)
The light green leaf margin and polka-dot patterns on a deep green background give the plant a pop of color. Its name comes from the combination of chloro- (green) and stiktos (spotted), and although this species is green in color, black and brown color variations are also known.
Begonia dracopelta
The brown ridges all over the leaves appear somewhat provocative and exotic. Don’t just look, but run your fingers through and feel its warty surface. Despite its appearance, the plant has delicate peach-colored flowers.
Begonia dregei
The palmately cleft leaves with lightly toothed edges are reminiscent of Japanese maple leaves. The plant is native to southern Africa, but whenever I see its bushy stems, I somehow feel a sense of familiarity, perhaps because of a Japanese atmosphere the leaves have.
Begonia poliloensis
A begonia with an unusual, but impressive leaf shape, contrary to the popular image of begonia plants. The palmate leaves with a reddish tint on the base and the underside are quite beautiful.
Begonia quadrialata ssp. nimbaensis
This begonia plant develops its teardrop-shaped leaves vertically. The pale evergreen color of leaves contrasts beautifully with the burgundy tinted veins. The plant is also characterized by hairs on the leaf margins and red stems.
Begonia sp. Berau
The acuminate leaf tip tapering from the broad leaf blade looks rather artistic. The pale green color is appealing with scattered white metallic spots. The clear leaf veins give it a more metallic look.
Begonia thelmae
Covered with hair (trichomes), the lovely oval leaves develop alternately while having a trailing habit. The gradation of colors from creamy light green of the midrib to the dark green leaf margin looks delightful. The shade of green becomes darker as the plant grows.
Begonia versicolor
This rare begonia plant has leaves densely covered with hair growing from the base to the entire leaf blade on both sides. Looking closely you will notice that the hair has soft, claw-shaped structure. The geometric shape of the leaf, outlined by a heart-shaped curve, is a wonder of nature.
[Key point] When growing begonias in System Paluda, Neo Glass Air, or Glass Pot SHIZUKU, it’s very important to maintain high humidity and avoid dryness until new leaves develop.
